Actuator velocity

85V

Range in database: 25–155 V

The voltage applied to the actuator. It sets how fast the actuator drives the moving wire holder.

Weld voltage

65V

Range in database: 40–100 V

The weld-energy voltage on the capacitor bank.

Delay time

5ms

Range in database: 0.5–8 ms

The timing delay setting on the 858, in milliseconds.

Capacitance setting

1

The capacitor bank setting: 1, 2 and 3 are the regular banks, 1HD, 2HD and 3HD the heavy-duty banks.

Pulse width

Long

Long or short, set on the pulse switch.

Melting-point gap

2,762 °C

Tungsten 3422 °C · Aluminum 660 °C (pure metals, rounded). See the gap diagram

Starting point, not a final recipe. Alloy, temper, surface condition, fixture setup and gap all shift the result. Vary one parameter at a time, run test welds and validate joint strength on your own parts before production.

FAQ

Are these parameters ready for production?

They're starting points from our lab experiments.

Actual alloys and material masses vary, so final schedules come from small adjustments. Change one parameter at a time, test, and validate joint strength before production.

What do the capacitance settings mean?

Cap 1, 2 and 3 are the three capacitor-bank settings on the 858, and 1HD, 2HD and 3HD are the heavy-duty banks.

Higher banks store more energy per weld. The exact capacitance of each bank is listed in the 858 specifications.

How do I know if my materials can be welded?

Start with the Parameter Finder or the weld schedules table.

If your pair isn't listed, tell us your weld challenge. We'll reply with a straight answer about whether percussion welding is a fit, and how.

Which metals can it join?

Dissimilar combinations are the specialty — aluminum, brass, copper, steel, titanium and many more.

Our lab database holds 131 tested weld schedules across 33 materials and 68 material pairs. Don't see yours? We've welded hundreds of combinations and can develop a schedule for yours.
