How a project works

From your weld challenge to production

You know early whether percussion welding fits. Many of our customers are under NDA, so we keep their names private.

  1. 01

    Evaluate the application

Based on your materials and weld specifications, we assess whether percussion welding is a good fit.

  2. 02

    Process evaluation

We test whether the weld specifications can be achieved. Free applications tests of your materials are available.

  3. 03

    Process development

With positive results, we develop the process. It is usually done in your environment, or at MTI MicroWelding if you prefer.

  4. 04

    Inspection and production

Welds are inspected visually, by mechanical testing, or with the Percussion Weld Monitor. We provide operator training and weld parameter documentation.

Who we are

Percussion Welder, part of MTI MicroWelding, has been providing advanced weld technology sales, service and education since 1990 from Denver, Colorado. We design and manufacture percussion welding equipment: the Model 858 Percussion Welder, the Model 726 Bench Fixture, the Model 808 Actuator and the Percussion Weld Monitor.

We support the joining of similar and dissimilar metals for industries ranging from medical device to automotive, electronics, aerospace and defense, and we do it with no solder, filler or flux.

What we do

  • Equipment: we design and build the 858 Percussion Welder, the 726 Bench Fixture, the actuator and the Percussion Weld Monitor.
  • Applications work: free applications tests of your materials, process evaluation and process development, usually in your environment or at our lab if you prefer. See our services.
  • Education and service: operator training, weld parameter documentation and service for the equipment we build.

Quality you can verify

MTI MicroWelding is certified to ISO 9001:2015 with Design by Smithers Quality Assessments (certificate 15.223.1). The certified scope is the design, manufacturing, sales, distribution and servicing of percussion welding and percussion welding equipment.

The certificate and our quality policy are public: see the quality documents.

Built and tested in our own lab

We build our equipment in Denver and test it ourselves. Every weld schedule we publish comes from our own lab experiments: 131 schedules across 33 materials and 68 material pairs. They are starting points, not guarantees, and every application is validated on your own parts.

You can explore the data yourself in the Parameter Finder, the weld schedules table and the material compatibility checker.

How we work with customers

Your challenge becomes ours. Every project starts with your weld challenge and moves in stages, so you know early whether percussion welding fits: we evaluate the application, run a process evaluation, develop the process with you and support inspection and production.

Many of our customers are under non-disclosure agreements, so you will not see customer names here. We are happy to talk through your own requirements, and we can run live, in-person tests at our lab in Denver.

Chapter 06 / 08

Straight answers

We will tell you honestly whether percussion welding is the right solution for your joint, or whether it is not.

  • We publish our lab data, and we say plainly that it is a starting point, not a guarantee.
  • We recommend changing one setting at a time and validating joint strength on your own parts before production.
  • If your pair is not in our data, we say so and offer a test instead of guessing.

Chapter 08 / 08

Put Percussion Welder to the test

The Percussion Welder uses a rapid, accurate weld process for joining small metal parts that can be difficult to join. It joins similar and dissimilar metals in milliseconds, with minimal heat effect on the metals and no solder, filler or flux.
